Clarke, Richard Michael.   University of Nevada, Reno ProQuest Dissertations Publishing,  1991. 1345766.

Abstract (summary)

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the gambling industry at the south shore of Lake Tahoe. The study is intended to show how the industry developed, where it is today, and what influences it. The thesis is divided into three sections.

The first section is the history of the area's gambling industry development, who and what shaped it. This section is primarily historical, not analytical.

The second section is a regression analysis of the exogenous factors that affect the area gaming. The factors found to directly influence gaming were California wages and salaries, seasons, local non-gaming recreational offerings, holidays, and inflation.

The third section is an attempt to create a demand-side oriented tourism index for South Lake Tahoe that will give a clear, accurate view of the local tourism trends.
